A lot of you are emailing me some very specific questions about the processes of actually producing the stories to make up the series.
Would it help if I wrote a series and posted all the details on here...why particular choices are made, why certain covers are used, details of the writing process, etc? A sort of 'write-along' series of posts.
I considered this before but wanted to avoid a backlash by critics who don't agree with my methods (not my actual writing, mind you...just my methods!) But surely those writers are mature enough to not hit me with a slew of one-star reviews aren't they?
Hey, that would be great, if you're up to it. I'd understand if you didn't want to put yourself through it, though.
ReplyDeleteBut surely those writers are mature enough to not hit me with a slew of one-star reviews aren't they?
Hope so!
Comment from Jason who had trouble getting his comment through the blogger submission. Not sure if there's a glitch. If anyone else can't leave a comment but wants to, email it to me and I will put it up here.
ReplyDeleteFrom Jason...
"Hey TW,
I'd love that. In fact I tried sending you a comment twice before that never got through.
If you are concerned about backlash, which might be a legit concern, you could make this a pay per view series.
Not to charge people and make money from it, but by charging you'd assure yourself that you're getting the real name of folks interested in this process so if there is backlash you likely have a way of figuring out who it might have been.
For example, this becomes a series that is shared through email to those subscribed with anonymized data shared on your blog.
You set up a PayPal payment of $1 or hell, even $0.01. What this does is require folks to sign up with their real name because that is what is required for a PayPal account.
Anyway, however you try this, I hope that you'll do it. I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers,
Jason"
Jason, thanks for your comment. However, if I did this I would put all the information on the blog. The philosophy of The Secret Lair (despite the name)is one of open sharing of information.
DeleteI would just have to trust that any naysayers would be honorable enough to not try and sabotage me. I don't mind who reads it or benefits from it, just so long as no one tries to destroy it simply because they do things differently.
Yes, please do it! This would be a great help. And I would buy every single one of them to show my support. I bet others would too.
ReplyDeleteI'm also interested in how you price intallments of a series. Do you plan to do blog post on this?
WyattM
Hi, Wyatt
DeleteYes, my intention is to blog everything.
I'd love to!
ReplyDeleteHi Tattooed Writer,
ReplyDeleteI would very much appreciate it!
By the way, is there a way to subscribe to this blog? (Or is that what the "Join this site" button is for?)
Best,
-Ailish
Hi, Ailish
ReplyDeleteYes..."Join this site". :)
Hi
ReplyDeleteI love the idea I am the type that likes step by step detail I learn best that way.
Consider doing this and when you put it up on Amazon, change the pen name and the tittle. My understanding is that you can have as many pen names as you like (they are called throw away pen names) but you can only have 3 pen names with a profile on Amazon. Also all payments for published works go to one account regardless of pen name so I don't think it would matter if you changed the pen name and tittle after you finished writing the series step by step on the blog.
You might consider doing more than on genre, a series of genre over time.
Another benefit to you is that you will automatically have new subject matter to be posted to the blog and not have to rack you brain for what to post today.
Toni
I think it would be really interesting to follow you through the process. I'm sure one could learn a lot by seeing your series progress from idea to finished product.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if anyone is interested, the following Podcasts are all about Writing, and there are some interesting conversations about episodic structure.

(Or you can visit John's Website directly- http://johnaugust.com/, which has some great stuff about writing, although it's geared more towards Screenwriting, there is some great info about story structure.)
Here's a site that has many television scripts (Including Pilots and series) that you can read and may help you structure your own stories.

(This site includes the "Battlestar galactica" show bible, which I reference when developing my episodic stories to help flesh out my "World(s)".
And a few youtube videos on Story Structure:

There is ton's of info and I thank TW for offering to help in our writing journey and I hope he doesn't mind the links that I posted. However, no matter how much reference or info you read, it's all for naught if you don't write :)

This would be fantastic. If you have the time and interest to do such a series, I for one know it would be extremely helpful for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you've done here!
Gary
